Covid, but make it poetry

Hey guys, it's been a while! The last few months have felt like a marathon to me (with an actual marathon sandwiched in there somewhere). From getting a new job to getting Covid, let me just say that I have confronted the full range of emotions as of late. More on the former to come, but as for the latter, I have put together a series of haikus to describe what this experience has been like.

Yes, this journey will go line by line by line. Five syllables in the first, seven in the second, and five in the third, to be precise. Why share my story this way? First, I'm not sure that I have the brain power to actually write yet; supposedly this is a thing. Second, if you can't laugh about it, you're gonna cry about it. And trying to recap and then filter the last eight days into neat little buckets has made me chuckle...

(If you've done the math, that's right, I've got two more days until!!!)

...With any luck, you will too. But mainly I just wanted to put this out there in some way, shape, or form. As you can imagine, I've had a lot of time to think while isolating, and not a lot of opportunity to discuss with anyone (at least, beyond the confines of texting or Marco Polo). You, my dear readers, give me a way to process the wild and weird times. Thank you for allowing me to share - and in doing so - reducing the shame, easing the frustration, and maybe even finding some connection. So, let's start from the beginning shall we? The rest will follow in chronological order, though admittedly it's hard to distinguish one day from the next while quarantined. Please enjoy:

That pink line appeared

faster than you can say "I

hate Covid-19"

Rests head on rim of

bathtub. Would it be so bad

if I slept right here?

Having friends is nice

until you get Covid and

have to text them all.

Wendy's Frosty - large.

Who knew my savior could be

dropped off at my door?

I flew the coop. What

a glorious thing to walk

outside of these walls.

The only reason

I will meet my Goodreads goal

is Covid. Thank you?

When plans for the night

involve cruising up and down

Lake Shore Drive. By choice.

Chicken noodle and

cumin carrot and matzo

ball...need cheeseburger!

This virus is like

that one ex who just won't leave

you alone. You up?

I feel much better.

But is it time to replace

my toothbrush head yet?

They call it super

immunity*. Like a star

in Mario Kart.

(*More on this here)

Have you had Covid? If so, did any of these land for you? Hope everyone stays safe out there and enjoys a very happy holiday.

You have quite the knack for poetry. :) Last day of quarantine - you made it!
